Frequently Asked Questions
Can I refer directly to the Leicester Fertility Centre?
Yes, you can refer privately funding patients direct to the clinic. Gynaecological investigations are funded on the NHS so you can refer patients to the Leicester Royal Infirmary however, as the clinic has direct links to all services at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, any additional investigations can be arranged at the patients first appointment.
I don't have/ can't see a copy of my patients semen analysis. What should I do?
Semen analysis results are issued back to the requesting doctor within 5 working days. Only the clinician who requested the test will receive a copy of the results, so if the test was requested by the gynaecology/ infertility clinic the patients GP will not receive a copy.
As well as paper copies results can be viewed on the iLAB data base.
To check to see if a result has been issued please call 0116 258 5922 and a member of the team can check the data base for you. A copy can be re-issued to the requesting doctor if the original paper copy has been lost.
Due to confidentially reasons we are unable to give results over the phone. Please do not ask as refusal can offend.
I have an oncology patient who needs cryo-preservation prior to treatment, how do I refer this patient to you?
Referral for cryo-preservation must be done via the oncology department at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. Please make the patients aware they need to ask to be referred to the Leicester Fertility Centre before they start any treatment if they wish to cryo-preserver sperm/ eggs/ embryos.
Referral forms should be available within the urology/ oncology clinics within University Hospitals of Leicester, however copies are available on request 0116 258 5922.
NHS funding is available for all oncology patients, irrespective of NHS fertility funding. Due to funding we are unable to accept patients without a request form.
