This is the freezing and storage of eggs or sperm for future use.
Age has a significant impact on a woman's fertility and so some patients may wish to store eggs for this reason. Leicester Fertility Centre offers women a chance to freeze eggs and keep them in storage at the centre for use at a later date. Counselling of the implications of freezing eggs is very important and the clinic has its own 'in house' counsellor with over 25 years experience within the infertility field to help guide patients through the decision making process.
Egg freezing involves a women undergoing the same stimulation of the ovaries as a women undergoing IVF treatment to produce follicles before collecting eggs under sedation. It is after this procedure that mature eggs will be frozen.
Men too can freeze and store sperm samples at the clinic. Whilst the process is less invasive it is still important to consider the implications carefully with the support of a counsellor.
Fertility preservation for individuals undergoing gender re-assignment is also available at our clinic.
Currently there is no NHS funding for people who wish to freeze their eggs or sperm for social reasons such as age or lifestyle choices. There is funding for patients undergoing cancer treatment or medical treatments which may impact their fertility; for more information on this please click here.
Please note our patient information leaflets have not been amended to include changes to our procedures as a result of Covid-19. So the information you are given verbally may differ from the leaflets
